Art exam coming up soon, help!!??

for my art exam we get the paper at least 2 weeks before the actual exam so we can practice

we have to draw an object and draw an abstract pattern on it to make it look 3D and realistic
we can base it on an abstract artist or an african tribe thingy
or we can do a pattern based on geometric, flowing or organic

any tips, ideas?? thank you =]

How about drawing an object like a bottle, or a ball/cube/pyramide and use Jackson Pollock as inspiration? He's an American painter famous for being.. well.. an American painter. He paints abstract art.

If you use his style and make up for it in the written part of the exam, you should be fine. And by making it 3D, use darker colors to give it form, and lighter ones to highlight. Maybe a shadow? which will also show room/space and give it a stronger 3D-ish form.

I was in art school. I could make sooo much stupid and still get an A because I could explain why I did this and that =D

Besides. Abstract is fun.
You can express your thoughts on colors etc. What contrasts you've used and so on. You know what I mean?
