How do different elements and principles of art enhance the composition of an artwork?

The elements and the principles of art is "not" used to "enhance" the composition of the artwork. Its the understanding of them that helps you create a good composition.
The elements are just parts that make up the whole. Lets take Line for example, lines exist in artworks no matter how beautiful or ugly the work is! The thing that make a good composition is not the use of line but on how it was used.
The Principles goes similarly. You could see them as "how the elements are bought together". They are actually more like a tools for studying artwork rather than as a device for creating good composition. If you look at an art work, you could study it for how it was using the principles of art. The artist place this thing here to achieve balance, he used color to achieve harmony etc. but while making an artwork you will be never be consciously considering them!
The elements are things that make up art and principles are used to study art... they are not used for enhancing composition. Creating good composition is rather more slippery and artist rely more on instinct for this.
