It's a performance piece. Many people who them don't document it. Cristo did things like line the highway with yellow umbrellas and I think he put a tent over something, whatever. Someone made people stand still in grand central station. Others might dress up weird and dance in the street.
It is performance art, the photos are simply a marketable form of documentation.
