The Avant-garde Movement was said to have been a controversial period of cultural resistance because it aimed to push the social and political boundaries of 17th century France. Avant-garde artists aimed to resist covention and aimed to convince society to viwe the world differently. The Avant-garde movement was also considered to be the hallmark of the Modernist movement although the Avant-garde movement is characterized as having more of a political or social reformist feel that opposed the mainstream culture brought on by the industrial revolution.
Some of the most popular artists in history belonged to this movement.Postcards and posters of these works continue to be sold in museums to meet popular demands. Anybody know some good and famous avant garde artists (Not Andy Warhol) Please give an exaple of some of their best works.
You know what? I'm going to leave out any particular works deliberately. All of them are very important and worht knowing about. Look them up yourself. One is famous because she married John Lennon. Another was her ex-husband when she married him. Another is Beck's grandfather. All created visual monuments.
