frame has custom made FWA 20 x 24 on back. Can someone tell me how to look this painting up or if you know any thing about the painting Please Help if ya can Thank You.
Hi Doc Watson this painting is relly exspensive. and old looking and the paint is craking I dont see how it could be a reproduction. What do you think ?

It's highly unlikely that you'll ever find any information about this artist because C. Cortey is not the artist's real name.

The number on the back of the canvas implies that this painting is a 'factory mill' painting, the type done in Europe or Mexico by the thousands each year and sold to tourists or sold in America as decorative art. You'll find these decoration paintings being sold anywhere from on street corners to Wal-Mart or some local discount furniture store.

The artist who painted this isn't allowed to use his own name and usually names are assigned to them when they do these paintings. The names assigned to them to use are always either American sounding or European (Italian is a favorite choice) sounding.

To a serious collector or dealer of art this painting has little, if any, value.

BTW, the fact that this painting was done in one of the painting factories doesn't mean that it isn't attractive or well done or that you shouldn't be proud to hang it on your wall. The true value of art is in the pleasure it brings to those viewing it.

EDIT: I did not say reproduction. I said it was a PAINTING done in a painting factory. These factories employ hundreds of artists to paint thousands of original paintings a year and these paintings are all given assigned lot numbers, for inventory reasons, to keep track of where they are being shipped and sold.

All old oil paintings start to crack over time. The painting factories got their start right after WWII when American tourists by the thousands were buying art off the street in Europe after the war. So the painting factories sprang up to supply the demand for anything that looked European in style and the average American wouldn't know if it were truly collectable or just pretty to look at.

Yes, your painting factory painting may be as old as 1947, which would explain the cracking oil paint, but that still does not mean that it's of any great value to a serious collector or dealer. It just means it was one of the eariler tourist paintings coming out of Europe.
