Portrait Poses to Show off Your Subject

Portrait poses that show off your subject's personality go a long way in helping to create a true picture of your subject. A portrait is almost certainly the most rewarding and tough picture to create. Capturing that spark that makes somebody special might be so challenging, but also what makes them such rewarding photos to work on. Diverse strategies can be utilized to set a subject at ease and get them engaged as well as bring out their own personal spark.

What kind of portrait are you performing? Is it formal or casual. Is the portrait being carried out for professional reasons or family or wedding announcement? How does the subject need to be portrayed?

What makes your subject tick? You might not have the opportunity to get to know your subject intimately. You could only have the initial interview prior to the shoot. That interview is really a very good time to discuss settings, dress or props for their photos and get an idea as to who they are.

Does your subject have a hobby they really feel strongly about? A portrait of a cook may be taken among her pots or with a completed dish. A gardener might be posed with her tools. Is a pet a large part of their life? Is their profession something they would like to have portrayed in the portrait?

What sort of a person are they? An individual who spends most of their time out of doors working or playing is going to look odd and stiff in a formal indoor setting and the opposite is true for a subject seeking a glamour shot.  These may well seem obvious, but they are 1 of the most widespread conflicts I see, a subject forced into a setting or pose that is unnatural or uncomfortable for them. These portraits tend to be lifeless at best.

When you determine all of the above the portrait poses themselves should be less difficult to settle on and it is best to have the ability to set your subject at ease and get a portrait that allows their individuality to shine through.
