Is it legal for me to be payed under minimum wage?
I recently got a job at a bakery and received my paycheck a few days ago. After doing the calculations I realized that I am getting paid less than minimum wage. My job is laborious and i am on my feet for 5 and a half hours every saturday (that is what day the employer requested I work), lifting heavy things, dipping, filling.. you know, not your normal teenage job. It's hard work and usually my hands, feet, back and pretty much everywhere else aches when i'm finally done. I'm 15 years old, and I just checked the student minimum wage in canada and it said $9.60. I am getting paid about $4.33 and hour. Is this even legal?!
There was no contract, i have signed nothing at all! no agreement no nothing i am not a professional, she just hired me on a whim because she thought i did a good job on my job shadow day and thought it would be good to have an extra pair of hands in the bakery.
Which province do you live in??
