lol okay, so! I'm a seventeen yearold up and coming artist, but I'm broke 
lol. I have a three by four foot painting that I just finished and I was wondering if I can sell it, and if so, for how much.

3x4ft
Acrylic on stretched canvass
Took three weeks to finish

Yes, you can sell your painting! Why? Because a person can sell anything. The key is, will a person want to BUY it? That is a hard question for anyone to answer. Your artwork will sell if it looks 1) professional 2) unique 3) or is in demand. You will have to market your art in order to get buyers. The key is exposure! The more people that know about your art, the higher the chances someone will buy it!
MARKETING TIPS:
1. Get a website to display your artwork. When you are talking to people and the subject of art comes up, they are going to want to see it. Plus, people always surf the internet looking for artists, so by getting a website you increase your chances of someone finding your art. Pay for a website address through Pixpa, Volusion, Go Daddy, Yahoo Small Business, Google Sites, or another web hosting company. Google search "web hosting" to find more providers. ELECTRONIC COMMERCE (e-commerce, eCommerce) is an extra feature that you can buy from your web host. E-commerce allows you to sell things on your website. Display your art on a free blog website such as Blogger, WordPress Free Blog, Tumblr while you sell your art on Ebay or Etsy. Display and sell your art on a free website such as Artist Rising, CafePress, Deviant Art, Fine Art America, ImageKind, Qoop, RedBubble, Zazzle.
2) Open an account on photo sharing or video sharing websites (YouTube, Flickr, etc.) that gets high volumes of traffic everyday! You only need to post a FEW of your BEST artworks on these sites. The goal is to remain active by posting comments on these sites to get more exposure! If you post comments on other people's pictures or videos, they will more than likely check out your account as well. After each comment, type your name, Example: John Doe, Watercolor Artist. Use a picture of your BEST ARTWORK as your AVATAR because people will generally click on awesome artwork first instead of a picture of yourself. You can't state that you sell artwork on these sites because they generally don't allow commercialism, so simply type your email address or website address under your profile, so people can contact you directly about your artwork.
How To Calculate Cost For Artwork:
1. The customer has to pay for ALL art materials (paint/pencils, paper/canvas, spray fixative/varnish, frame, etc.) that was used in creating the artwork. When you buy art supplies, keep your receipts, so you will know how much they cost. Or buy a notebook and keep a log of how much art materials cost. (Note: If the tube of paint cost, Example: $2.50, you would still charge the full amount of $2.50 even if you used a small amount of paint from the tube. So $2.50 x 4 tubes of paint used = $10.00).
2. The customer has to pay for labor - the time you spent in creating the artwork. There are two ways to calculate labor:
A) Give an ESTIMATE as the final cost, Example: Charge $8.00 (approximate minimum wage) every hour. Estimate how many hours you think it will take to create artwork, Example: $8.00 x 2 hours = $16.00. Giving an estimate is the better choice when doing commissions and writing up contracts because the customer will know the exact price you will be charging for the artwork.
B) Charge the EXACT price, Example: Charge $8.00 every hour. Everytime you work on the piece of artwork, write down the time. When the art is completed, add up the times to get the exact hours you worked on creating the artwork, Example: 2 hours 25 minutes. Round Up or Round Down the minutes to get total. In this example, you would round up to 30 minutes which would be 0.50, Example: $8.00 x 2.50 hours = $20.00
0.25 = 15 minutes (Example: 2.25 = 2hrs 15min)
0.50 = 30 minutes (Example: 2.50 = 2hrs 30min)
0.75 = 45 minutes (Example: 2.75 = 2hrs 45min)
3. Make a profit: Add the cost of materials (#1 above) and labor (#2 above), Example: $10 + $20 = $30. Then you once, double, triple, quadruple, etc. that amount to get your profit, Example: $30x1=$30 or $30x2=$60 or $30x3=$90 or $30x4=$120 and etc. You will have to decide how much "PROFIT" you want to make.
4. Add up all three amounts to get your grand total, Example:
$10.00 Materials
$20.00 Labor ($8 x 2.50 hours)
$30.00 SUB TOTAL
$30.00 SUB TOTAL
$30.00 Profit ($30 x 1)
$60.00 GRAND TOTAL (price of the artwork)
