Asian Inspired Decorating On A Budget

Do you love looking at the beautifully decorated rooms in magazine?  Does the stunning Asian Inspired rooms make you long to bring a little of the Far East into your home?  Does you budget limit the amount of money that you can spend on redecorating?  Stop stressing and follow these easy to follow steps for an Asian inspired room on a budget.

This is one decorating trend that is very easy on the budget.  The entire idea behind this style is simplicity and minimalism.  These facts alone make it a trend that is very easy on your wallet.   This is one of the few design styles that work well with plain white walls, another bonus if you don't want to deal with the hassle and expense of painting.

To make this design work, remove as much as possible from the room.  Take out all of those tired accents that have been collecting dust and donate them or recycle them into another room.  If you are doing this in your living room, keep only the basics:  sofa, a chair or two, coffee table, and a set of end tables.  Depending on the size of the room, you may be able to get away with a bookcase as well.  If you are doing this project in your bedroom, keep only the bed, dresser, and nightstands.

Now look at the furniture that you kept.  You want to arrange it in the room to create the most space and natural flow for traffic.  This varies from house to house and room to room, so play around with it until you are pleased.  I don't believe that there are any set rules on furniture placement, do what works for you, just remember that minimalism is the key.  You can always remove more furniture if need be.

Furniture in Asian inspired rooms is often darker woods or black.  A little touch up staining or a trip out to the back yard with a can of paint may be needed here.  Even if your furniture is traditional, you would be surprised how a little coat of paint changes the look completely.  If you are going to be using table lamps, give them a quick coat of black or red paint as well.

Once you have your furniture placed, it's time to think about color.  Asian themes use mostly red and black in the color scheme, so do you need to purchase black slipcovers or new black bedding.  If so, now is the time to do it.  While you're at it, add a few decorative pillows in solid red or in a bright geometric pattern.

Now that you have the basics, it's time to accessorize!  This is the fun part.  Since Asian design focus on the impact rather than volume, select your accents carefully.  Candles are always a welcome addition to any room; scatter a few plain white ones around the room in simple candle plates or trays.  Select only one or two additional accents and you're done.

The advantage to this type of design is its simplistic style.  It can be incorporated into any room at very little cost.  In just one afternoon, you can transform your room from boring to trendy without breaking the bank.
