Fairies oil paintings

Which gradual filter to use?

I'm off to cyprus at the end of the month and while i'm there i want to take lots of pictures, especially landscapes and seascapes, which filters would provide the best results? I have a Canon EOS 400D

Buy a circular polarizer. Don't waste money on some cheap, no-name one. Buy quality: Heliopan, Hoya, B+W, Tiffen, Singh-Ray. If you'll be using it on a wide angle lens I suggest buying a "thin" or "slim" mount to avoid possible vignetting. A polarizer darkens a blue sky and removes glare/reflections from water, sand, snow, glass and painted metal - but not polished metal. It also enhances colors.

I also strongly suggest a good tripod for your landscapes and seascapes. Keep the horizon level. Use the Rule of Thirds unless you decide that the sky and foreground are equally important.

Make your photographs during the "Golden Hour" - the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset.

Maximize your Depth of Field (DOF). This means using f16 and manually focusing to a predetermined point. Go to this site:
http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html Use the DOF Calculator to compute DOF for any combination of focal length, f-stop and subject distance imaginable. Here is one example:

18mm @ f16 focused to 5' DOF is from 2'-1'' to infinity. So anything from 2'-11'' in front of your (imaginary) subject to as far as you can see - infinity - will be in focus.
