AQA Art Exam - Urban Life - London?
For this years art exam, I have decided to look at the topic of 'urban Life', focusing my work on London.
So far I have drawn typical London objects such as the underground signs, telephone boxes and Big ben and have linked my work to the work of Andy Warhol. I have come to a standstill in my work and was wondering if you had any ideas as to what to do next?
How about doing a time-line photo-feature on any one of your favorite buildings such as Westminster Abbey, etc. If you don't have the time to do it for the entire year, you can do it for a diurnal one. eg. take photos after every 30 mins throughout the day & night. Then recreate the entire building with plates from these 30 min intervals so that you have the building as it looks during daybreak through to the next day.
If you use this technique for a place where there are crowds eg. the entrance of a railway station or subway, cars on the road, Trafalgar Square, change of guards at Buckingham Palace, etc., it will bring out how the 'scene' is ever-changing. It will bring out the essence of urban living.
You could also focus on the facial & body expressions/gestures of people in public places. But instead of focusing on the entire person, focus only the part that is "saying" something, with the background telling the rest of the story. eg. eyes looking skyward in a resigned fashion while the very first droplets of rain come down, or hands trying to open the umbrella.
Go up the Millennium Eye & try to capture some of the scenes from there.
How about the various Uniforms one comes across while walking around the city? Uniforms of royal guards, administration, transport workers, hospitals, etc.etc.
