DRAW YOUR OUTLINE WINE BOTTLE IMAGE IN ONE COLOUR. I USED BLUE.

SELECT A PALETTE OF BURNT SIENNA, ULTRAMARINE BLUE, YELLOW OCHRE AND TITANIUM WHITE. THEN ROUGH IN THE COLOURS.

NEXT, STRENGTHEN THE DARKS STILL USING YOUR LIMITED PALETTE
AND CREATE MORE DIMENSION TO THE PAINTING.

NOW USING A FULL COLOUR PALETTE, PAINT THE BOTTLE TO ITS CONCLUSION.

USING THIS METHOD YOU CAN EXPAND THE PICTURE TO STUNNING EFFECT AS FOLLOWS:

The History of Fine Wine Painting

Fine Wine Paintings have been created for a very long time and has its beginnings in still life paintings dating back many centuries. Very early ‘breakfast' pieces by the Dutch painter Nicolas Gillis, were followed by Pieter Claesz and Willem Claes Heda, the paintings initially were quite simple and very subdued in colour. Then came Willem Kalf who also featured wine, tall glasses and wine jugs, Roemer glass, candlesticks and fruit, but light seemed to be a big influence on him. Blue and white Chinese bowls with lemons, using complimentary colours to great effect. Then there was Jan Davids de Heem with Nautilus cup, green grapes, lemon and lobster, such evocative pieces to feast your eyes on, how could they not inspire?

All of these painters were superb, their paintings probably influenced fine wine art painters that followed much later. They certainly had a great influence on me and my art.

About the Author

Peter decided to find a new challenge and direction and focused on perfecting ‘Still Life' painting specialising in wine, which was also something he was starting to take a great interest in. He has developed a unique blend of working with both contemporary and traditional styles, colours and techniques, and this gives his paintings an individuality, detail and atmosphere. In 2004 Peter was invited to take part in a prestigious Still Life exhibition in California, where he was the bestselling artist in the show. He has continued to paint fine wines and still life and has achieved much acclaim and recognition for his work.

 

Can I serve wine at my art show?

My partner and I own a small music venue in Michigan. We also occasionally hold art shows and other events in our space. A local art dealer is planning on having an art show at our place, and wishes to serve wine at the opening, like he has done at other venues. We obviously don't have a liquor license or anything, so I am not sure if it would be legal for us to do this or not. I also heard from someone else in our community that it may depend on whether we charge guests to get in or not. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hire a catering company with a liquor liscense to serve the wine.
